Did you know 61% of website users will LEAVE the site if they don’t find what they’re looking for within around 5 seconds?
Here’s the kicker: you can have a beautiful website, but if your visitor can’t quickly find what they need, they’re leaving. And you’re losing out on THOUSANDS of dollars. That means user experience (UX) is not just important — it’s crucial for your site’s success.
So, what exactly makes a website “high-converting”, and how can you build one?
ANYWAYS
Before we get into it, let me introduce myself. I’m Hanna, brains and brawn behind Digital Gems. I specialize in designing high-converting websites so YOU can make. more. money.
What is a high-converting website anyways?📲
A “high-converting” website doesn’t just traffic, but ENCOURAGES ACTION (purchasing a product, booking a discovery call, filling out an inquiry form, signing up for a freebie, etc.). So what exactly makes a website “high-converting”?
User experience: Unfortunately, I see far too many websites where style trumps usability. Beautiful, yes, but ultimately useless if it doesn’t serve the viewer’s experience.
Quick loading speed – 87% of viewers won’t wait longer than 6 seconds for a site to load.
Easy navigation – viewers should never have to guess where to go next. A clear, intuitive design with functioning menus and action buttons guides them on their journey through your site.
Simplicity over aesthetics – flashy designs and endless animations can be engaging, but if they make it hard to navigate your site, they’re doing more harm than good.
Clear and unique value proposition
High-converting websites tell the viewer exactly why they’re on your site and how you are the solution to their problem. Don’t make them guess what you do.
What problem do you solve?
How do you solve it better than anyone else?
What results can they expect?
Effective and repetitive Call-to-Actions (CTAs)
A high-converting website doesn’t leave visitors wondering what to do next. Calls-to-action (CTAs) should be clear, persuasive, and used throughout the site to guide users toward conversion.
What action do you want them to take? Book a consultation? Purchase a product? Download a freebie?
Be specific and urgent: Phrases like “Book a free discovery call today!” or “Start growing your business now!” motivate visitors to take action without hesitation.
Mobile optimization is a must
Over half of all website traffic comes from mobile devices. If your site isn’t optimized for mobile, you’re losing out on a huge chunk of potential clients.
Showit is my ride-or-die when it comes to web design because it gives you full control over the mobile version of your site. And trust me, having control over the mobile layout is key to delivering the best experience.
Consistent Branding
High-converting websites reflect their brand’s message in a way that’s consistent with social media, imagery, and overall tone.
Brand cohesion is vital for building trust and recognition in your audience.
Keep your messaging clear and aligned with what your audience expects.
Use consistent aesthetics along all visual channels.
Core Design Principles for Conversion💸
Less is more
Please, for the love of design, stop cluttering up your pages! Too many images, fonts, and colors can overwhelm your viewers and confuse their navigation. Keep it clean, clear, and easy to read.
Tip: Use dark text on light backgrounds (and vice versa) to make it easier for viewers to read.
Keep effects minimal. Yes, they’re fun, but don’t let them steal the show.
Hit ’em hard in the first 3 seconds
You have 0.05 seconds for a visitor to form an opinion about your site, and that first impression is often made in the hero section (your main header), so use that prime real estate wisely.
Tip: answer the following questions in your main header
What do you do?
Who do you do it for?
Don’t overwhelm visitors with long paragraphs or “about me” sections. Instead, be clear, concise, and to the point.
Professional images
Images and videos engage your audience far more than a block of text. They also help build trust– if your website looks professional, your visitors will take you more seriously.
Tip: Invest in high-quality, professional images to convey trust and credibility. I recently came across a sales coach’s website — her social content was great, but the site was a complete eyesore. Major missed opportunity alert!🚨 A website like that could easily turn 60% of potential clients away.
If you’re serious about your business, your website should reflect that.
Let’s Talk Features🖊️
Persuasive CTAs:
The best CTAs create urgency (without being deceptive), prompting visitors to take immediate action.
Example CTAs:
“Ready to grow your business? Book a free discovery call today!”
“Start growing today” (simple, direct, and action-oriented).
Landing pages:
If you’re focusing on one specific product, service, or freebie, consider using a landing page — a single-page website with one CTA.
Warning🚨: Don’t use a landing page as your entire website. A landing page works best when you want focus on one product or goal, but if you have multiple offers — you want to provide variety to viewers.
Clear and compelling messaging:
Your website’s copy can make or break your site’s performance. You have 6 seconds or less to grab a viewer’s attention, so make it freakin’ count.
Tip: Use concise headers and break your content into digestible sections that explain:
Why they need it (your product, service)
What result it will bring them
Why they need to do it now (sign-up, purchase, etc)
